Sea Glass Candle Holder

After posting the seashell wreath, I got inspired to make a sea glass candle holder.

I purchsed a clear candle holder at the dollar store and a package of decorative sea glass from Michaels for about $2.50.

I tried to use E6000 glue to attach the glass pieces, but they kept sliding off so I opted for high heat hot glue for a glue gun and it worked great.  The glass pieces are holding great and the glue is totally clear. 

Just pick pieces of glass, apply glue and place them on the container as you go.  It's like doing an uncharted mosaic.  I loved it!

 It's OK to have some clear spaces between the pieces, looks good. I was afraid that one package of glass d wouldn't do it, but I had plenty with a few pieces left over. I added a jute bow  and a candle and ta da..... a candle holder!  So cute on a deck!  Enjoy!

Coastal again??  Of Course. I just couldn't resist featuring this awesome shell wreath!  Just looking at this makes me feel the sand between my toes!  A Pretty Cool Life did a great job and put together an easy to follow tutorial.  I'm going to keep my eye out for shells.

No Sew Placemat Pillow

I experimented with making a quick and inexpensive pillow from two silky placemats I found at Target on sale for $2.99 each and stuffing I found at a garage sale for 50 cents.  The experiment was putting it together with Heat and Bond seam tape.  I had my concerns that it might not work because the fabric was thick, but with patience it worked GREAT!

First you run the seam tape on one side, put sides together and heat until you can see that it has bonded.  I followed the directions on the package, but had to add a heating time due to the thickness of the placemats.  It is important that you check to see that the tape has bonded before moving to the next side.  It will look like it has melted and "glued" the seam together.

 Repeat this process with the other two sides, leaving one short side open.
The last step is to stuff the pillow and seal the end with the same process of seam tape and heat.
Ta Da, you have a pillow!!!  I added a satin bow to match my bedding. I think I even surprised myself that this worked so well.
The only tip I have is to be sure you check the bond on your seams before moving on to the next side.  I found this to be a great bond that is holding the seams very well.

Thanks to Under the Table and Dreaming I have a new great idea for patio planters.  These are really great looking and such an inexpensive idea.  Love it!

Dollar Store Simplicity

On my last trip to the dollar store I was looking for a quick way to make a candle holder.  I scored just three items to do the trick.  I think the results are simple, yet classy.  The candle even smells wonderful!
After I made this I saw a similar one on close out at Marshalls for $14 without the candle!

Here are the three items straight from the dollar store. 

Just remove the tags, run a bead of the glue around the top edge of the candle stick, put the candle holder on top, let set for 24 hrs.  Add your candle and you're done!!  Now that is what I call simple!
